How long does it take?

At Learnihao, we use the CEFR and ACTFL frameworks to comprehensively classify language proficiency levels. CEFR, which stands for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, is an internationally recognized standard for describing language proficiency. It is divided into three levels: A, B, and C, with each level further divided into two sublevels, resulting in six proficiency levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2, ranked from low to high.

As shown in the chart above, the average study hours for Chinese language learning vary across proficiency levels. For level A, it ranges from 120 to 360 hours, for level B, it ranges from 360 to 960 hours, and for level C, it exceeds 960 hours. Taking an intensive physical language course as an example, covering one proficiency level typically requires one semester. Assuming students attend classes for four hours per day, five days a week, for eight to ten weeks per semester, they can achieve proficiency levels ranging from B2 to C1 in approximately four semesters, or one year.

Learning outcomes vary from person to person, but we recommend that regular and focused learning yields the best results. Common choices include studying for one to two hours daily or two to three days per week for two hours each session. At Learnihao, we offer flexible course options to meet your learning needs.

Our courses come with convenient digital learning materials and resources, allowing you to preview before class and review afterward. Even if you’re busy with other commitments and can’t allocate a dedicated block of time, you can still absorb language knowledge effectively in short intervals. This helps you achieve the same results as you would with in-person classes or traditional school learning.
